Hello! I am finch Courtney Beth Keller, sharing with you my process in making this collection of dinosaur patterns. I am mom to a 5-year-old boy, so dinosaurs have been known to show up almost everywhere in my house! We love to talk about what dinosaurs might have done or seen, where they lived (the first triceratops fossils were found right here in Colorado!) and whether they can be resurrected somehow by using DNA (thanks Jurassic Park).
I started this pattern project with some simple sketches and drew a number of agave-style plants, various dino shapes and some lettering of dinosaur names. While I have an idea of what I want to do with these, there are always little surprises that happen after the wheels are in motion and I'm in the play phase.
Once I had the main dinosaur pattern in place and liked my layout, I began to play around with some different color options:
I picture these patterns and illustrations working well in a child's room. While I adore the reds and pinks, I have decided to mock these up in the blue hues this time around.
These patterns and illustrations are part of a larger collection. If you'd like to see more of my work, you can follow me on Instagram or visit my website where you can join my mailing list, purchase a pillow, or follow the link to my Spoonflower shop for fabric, wallpaper and gift wrap.
